Day 156: An Ancestor of My Life

Ok - this one has to have an explanation.
The man pictured is my great grandfather (grandfather to my mother; father to her father) W. R. Williamson. He was an actuary in Washington D.C., meaning he was a person who compiled and analyzed statistics for the nation and used them to calculate insurance risks and premiums. The task he is most known for was giving advice on Social Security (part of Roosevelt's New Deal). Ironically he recommended the program to be only a short-term solution to the huge problem of healthcare.
ANYWAY, here he is, my great grandfather, on page 18 of the very first issue of Life Magazine! I sure do wish I could have gotten to know him.
And if you can't read what the caption says in the 2nd pic, it says:
"Actuary W. R. Williamson figures the most favorable rates, the lowest overhead of any insurance institution in the country."
"Talking to a group of doctors who were going to handle public health program under Surg. General in Washington."
